The students of the National Advanced School of Public Works of Yaounde took part in a "Training seminar for peer educator students in preventive measures against Covid-19" organized by the Ministry of Higher Education in the meeting room of the NASPW from July 15 to 16, 2021

Throughout this seminar, it was a question of training these students on the following points:

  • - How to sensitize the student community, administrative staff, and security personnel;
  • - Make people aware of the benefits of the Covid-19 vaccine;
  • - How to approach the different social layers through interpersonal communication, communication for behavior change and communication on the risks associated with Covid-19;
  • - Initiation to community engagement strategies in the context of Covid-19;
  • - Presentation of the COVID-19 management guide on the Campus;
  • - How to establish an action plan to fight Covid-19.

To achieve this, several means have been indicated to them:

  • - Educational talk;
  • - Home visit ;
  • - Visit to the communities;
  • - Visit within families.

During these two days, the students were subjected to the following activities:

First day (Thursday July 15, 2021)

  • - Presentation of training modules
  • - General information on the Covid-19 pandemic
  • - Risks related to Covid-19 in the Campus and prevention - Discussions
  • - The major problems linked to Covid-19
  • - Barrier measures and barrier gesture: what's the difference? Exchanges
  • - Vaccination against Covid-19: good to know
  • - Pre - test results - Exchanges
  • - Basics of peer education - Exchanges
  • - Guiding principles of peer education
  • - Summary

Second day (Friday July 16, 2021)

  • - Reading of the D1 report
  • - Presentation of the guide for managing Covid-19 on campuses: Community engagement and the role of peer educators - Discussions
  • - Initiation to community engagement strategies in the Covid-19 context
  • - Communication for behavior change
  • - Communication on the risks (communication tools)
  • - Application of risk communication in the context of Covid-19
  • - General report.
