Tuesday, February 25, 2020, 26 students from the National Advanced School of Public Works of the Civil Engineering and Architectural club third year paid a visit to the construction site of the Project for the construction of a foundation in driven foundation piles at Warda located in Yaounde.
Project description
This Project aims to create a sufficiently resilient base for the construction of a hypermarket in this neighborhood.
Description of the ongoing Works
During this visit, the students attended the installation of the prefabricated piles using a special TERRATEST method. They were buried using a pile driver until refused at a depth equal to that of the rocky layer below.
Goals of the outing
It was a question of better impregnate themselves the theoretical elements learned in the courses of Geotechnics 1 (level 3), Project Management (level 4), Local Materials (levels 4 and 5), and Geotechnics of Foundations (level 5) such as :
- Determination of the bearing capacity of soils
- Types of foundations
- Choice of a foundation
- Used materials
- Tests carried out
- Design elements for foundations
- Materials used for the implementation of foundations.
At the end of this visit, the students acquired the following geotechnical, project management and HSE knowledge:
- HSE rules on a construction site
- Soil lift determination tests
- Characteristics of insitu layers
- Help elements for choosing a foundation
- Sizing of the piles used
- Characteristics of the piles used
- Operation of the pile driver etc.
