With a view to getting to grips with the realities of the field and to familiarize themselves with the world of employment, the Environmental Engineering club has organized on Thursday June 03, 2021, an educational outing on the construction site of the sludge treatment station in the neighborhood called “Barrière” precisely at Etoa

During this site visit, the students were asked to see the operating principle of a wastewater treatment plant, from the reception of faecal sludge to its treatment.

They decided that for a complete faecal sludge treatment circuit, this station will have to wait about 3 months to obtain a result which will be done in two stages:

  •   Liquid phase: the treated water will be discharged into the Mefou stream
  •   Solid phase: the decontaminated and dried sludge will be stored in the storage area and subsequently used as spreading in the agricultural process and others.

The students were also able to find that the main treatment methods at this station are Ultra Violet (UV) rays and the digestion is anaerobic.

Station in the terminal phase, they also remember that the next step will be anti-odor plants (Elang Elang), in order to overcome odors on the site.

This station is equipped as follows:

  •   a thick basin
  •   a drying bed
  •   an anaerobic pool
  •   a storage area
  •   an optional lagoon
  •   an executory (stream of the Mefou)
